The Srimad Bhagavata Purana is a very important literature which records the histories of saints and sages who lived through the ages. One of the very well- known stories is of Prahlad Maharaja. The father of Prahlad Maharaja was a wicked demon king named Hiranyakashipu.

When he was five years old, Prahlad was sent the school of Sanda and Amarka. The demoniac teachers wanted to teach the children political subjects like ruling and controlling others, collecting wealth and so on. But Prahlad was not at all interested in these subjects. He loved everyone and didn't want to cheat anyone.

Whenever the teachers were away, Prahlad gathered his classmates and told them the stories of God. The little children said "We are very small now and we should spend our time in playing and enjoying ourselves. When we are older we can learn about God."

But Prahlad Maharaja replied "From the very beginning of life one should learn to pray to the Lord. We need to learn good habits now. As we grow older, it becomes difficult to change our habits." Prahlad said, "In a life span of 100 years, first 10years goes in childish pranks, next 20 years goes in sports and play. The last 20years goes in bed with diseases and old age. In the balance 50 years, if one sleeps 12 hours a day, then only 30 years are left. If one has to do job 10 hours a day, one is left with only 5 years for inquiring about God and about the real goal of life. And very few people live for 100 years. So, we should take advantage of the special intelligence that God has given us in this human body.

Animals have intelligence only to search for food, find place to sleep, reproduce children and fight with others to defend themselves. But humans can become free from all sufferings by living a pure life according to God's instructions given in vedic literatures." Prahlad said, "Learn to love God, from the age of five. Human body is rare, utilize it with care."

The little friends of Prahlad Maharaja listened carefully to his message. It was true. So much time was lost every day. They decided that henceforth, they would use their time very carefully and meaningfully.

Sri Mukunda Datta

Sri Mukunda Datta was born in the Cattagrama district, in the village of Chanhara, which is under the jurisdiction of the police station named Patiya. This village is situated ten krosas, or about twenty miles, from the home of Pundarika Vidyanidhi. In the Gaura-ganoddesa-dipika (140) it is said: vraje sthitau gayakau yau madhukantha-madhuvratau mukunda-vasudevau tau dattau gauranga-gayakau “In Vraja there were two very nice singers named Madhukantha and Madhuvrata. Hera Panchami

The Rath Yatra festival is one of the oldest and most popular yatra celebrated in Odisha every year. Devotees throng from far and wide to revere Mahaprabhu Jagannath’s presence amidst them. The devotees walk along the chariot and Rath yatra begins on Asadha Shukla Paksha Dwitiya tithi every year.
